You can mouse over each option in HistorySweep to get a brief "hint" description of the item.
Setup
It really depends on which browser you are interested in clearing data from. First off you can click on the gear icon in the system tray (lower right of your screen) to bring up the HistorySweep menu. From there click HistorySweep Control Panel.
Control Panel
On the HistorySweep Control Panel you will see various tabs at the bottom such as "Internet Explorer" and "AOL Browser". Click on the tab for your corresponding browser.
Selecting Your User Profile
On this page you'll want to check "Sweep them all!" to sweep all the history for that browser. If it is the AOL Browser, Netscape, or FireFox you will also need to select from which User Profile you would like to clear history.
Browser History Paths
If no history is detected for that browser (says "Not Found") you can go to the Settings tab and try to find the location path of the history files yourself (click the folder next to the corresponding Path box). For the AOL Browser you can also use the "Locate" button to search for AOL profile directories. If multiple directories are found it is suggested that you select the bottom most directory in the list (AOL 9.0c before AOL 9.0b etc).
Analyze Risk, Clear History, and Cookie Keeper
After you have done the above you can click Analyze Risk on the browser tab to see how many history files and how much history data is detected. You can then click Sweep to clear out that history data. Additionally, you can use the Cookie Keeper button to select which cookies you would like to keep from being deleted.
Automated History Sweeping
HistorySweep is set up by default to detect which browser you are using and automatically check the boxes for it. The other default settings it has (on the Control Panel tab) will sweep your history data when all browsers are closed and when Windows starts up. And lastly you can use "Protect my Privacy, Sweep history now!" button to sweep all of your selected history options in one click. This is also acceptable via the right click button on the HistorySweep system tray icon.
Popup Killer
You can configure the popup killer by clicking the Configure button in the Popup Killer section of the HistorySweep Control Panel or on the Popup Manager menu item in the gear icon right click menu. Sites that you add to the white list will always be allowed to open popup windows. Sites in the black list will never be allowed up open popup windows.
There are three popup filter levels. High, which means all popups will be blocked as much as a possible (taking the whitelist and blacklist into account). Medium, which means most popups will be blocked but links that open in a new window should do so (taking the whitelist and blacklist into account). And low, which means most popups will be blocked but links that open in a new window should do so and popups from secure sites should open as well (taking the whitelist and blacklist into account). And lastly at any filter level you can hold down the left CTRL button to allow a popup to open or you can toggle the popup killer on and off using the SCROLL LOCK button. When the scroll lock light is off popups are blocked.
That is pretty much all there is to it. You can sweep your history quickly if need be from the menu that comes up when you click the gear icon in the system tray.
